Glen Saint Mary Nurseries Company is one of the oldest family owned nurseries in northeast Florida and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. George Lindley Taber Sr founded the nursery in 1882 and began experimenting with a variety of fruit trees, including citrus. Little did he know that his legacy would persist 130 plus years as George L. Taber III and IV continue to grow landscape ornamental plants for the wholesale business, including the George L. Taber Azalea.
The historic home known as Linwood was built in 1882 by Mr. Taber Sr for his beautiful bride. Built in the Georgian style, the 2 two-story buildings were connected by a "dog trot" and featured wrap around porches. The Mathis House was build in 1915 for a nursery manager, Mr Mathis and his family. Linwood and the Mathis House are both part of The Glen Venue offerings.
